How to visit Austria by van or motorhome?

Often overlooked when it comes to finding a destination for a road trip, Austria has surprises in store for the most curious and passionate motorhome travellers!

What to visit in Austria by RV?

Starting with the Tyrol region, Innsbruck is a must if you want to discover Austria from a new perspective. Less known as a tourist destination, the Innsbruck Cathedral, as well as the Maria-Theresien-Straße and its magnificent view of the mountains are the must-see attractions in this city, which is also known as the "Capital of the Alps". A few hours' drive east you will come across the "Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße", a 48-kilometre-long road made for road trip lovers, which crosses the Austrian Alps and allows you to admire the beauty of the surrounding scenery. It is strongly recommended to cross this road in a motorhome for an extraordinary experience! About 130 kilometres north of there you will reach the beautiful city of Salzburg. Located on the border with Germany, you can get lost in the beautiful streets of the old town, or walk up to the Fortress of Hohensalzburg. Vienna must of course be on your list for a successful crossing of Austria. Between Schönbrunn Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna (Stephansdom), Belvedere Palace or Hofburg Palace, you will have something to soak up Austria's culture and heritage!

When to go on holiday in Austria?

For cities such as Salzburg and Vienna, autumn and spring will be ideal times to enjoy pleasant temperatures while visiting. On the other hand, winter sports enthusiasts will prefer a getaway between December and March!
