What to do in Marne?

The city of Reims owes its nickname of "cité de sacres" to its Notre Dame cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral of Notre Dame de Reims baptized Clovis and was a place of coronation for many french kings.
The Palais de Tau, former residence of the archbishops of Reims, has now become a museum. The Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of Saint-Rémi is also to be seen: 126 metres long, it houses the Saint-Rémi Museum, which tells the history of the abbey as well as the military history of the city.
Châlons-en-Champagne is a particularly pleasant city as well, with its jards (the Grand Jard, the Jard Anglais and the Petit Jard), which are in fact natural sites promising beautiful walks in the heart of the city. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame-en-Vaux, the current prefecture, which was once the former hotel of the Intendants, or the abbey of Toussaint, a listed historical monument, are not to be missed. The atypical sewing machine museum has many well-preserved period machines.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Thorn is to be seen because it is out of the ordinary. Indeed, this important church was built in a small town, hence its originality. Dating from the 15th century, this basilica shines with its 123 gargoyles and rich furniture.
Several castles are to be visited, such as the Château de Boursault, located 7km from Epernay. Although you can't visit this 19th century castle, you can buy Champagne there. The beautiful fortified residence of Braux Sainte Cohière and the castle of Montmort are to be discovered.
The Marne is also a department for green tourism: the Argonne forest for example offers beautiful walks in the heart of nature, just like the Marais de Saint-Gond which extends over 4000 hectares, a true refuge for 127 species of birds.
The Lac du Der and its 48 hectares of water offer 6 beaches and 77km of shores! Many water activities such as fishing or boat rides are possible!
Finally, the domaine des Faux de Verzy is an unusual place to visit in Marne: indeed, the twisty beech trees of this domain give it a strange atmosphere.
