What to visit in the department of Val-de-Marne

The Marne river crosses the Val-de-Marne and offers beautiful walks alongside. The banks of the Marne offer many walks, as well as a pleasant setting! Those routes and riverside walks are especially pleasant in the towns of Nogent-sur-Marne or Joinville. The Créteil leisure centre offers many water sports activities such as catamarans, sailing and canoeing. Vast areas are dedicated to running and walking, and another to mountain biking. The Bras du Chapitre is also an ideal place for outdoor walks, as is the Parc du Plateau or the Parc des Lilas.
The Val de Marne rose garden is worth a visit since it was the first rose garden to be created in France. The rose garden is composed of 13 gardens, all unique, each with different collections. This is how you can admire the roses "à la française", "foreign" or "wild". The Val de Marne also has a historical heritage to visit, including the 14th century Château de Vincennes. This castle is not to be missed since it is the largest fortified castle in all of France. Several shows take place there, allowing you to visit the castle in a "theatrical" way!
The castle of Grosbois, now private, or the fort of Sucy-en-Brie built around 1880 are worth seeing. We also recommend that you do not miss the Fragonard Museum of the National Veterinary School. Many animal skeletons are on display, as well as curiosities of nature or even skinned animals!
Finally, the fresh produce market of Rungis, the largest in the world, is not to be visited, as it is unavoidable and renowned!
