What to visit in Niort

Whether you have chosen Niort for an extended holiday or a short stay, you should know that the city is full of places to visit. Very pleasant, you can walk around the city to discover the magnificent typical pedestrian streets. Take a detour to rue Saint Jean where you can admire several old residences, including the Governor's House and the Estissac Hotel. The city is particularly famous for its "Green Venice". This place in the Poitevin marsh is called so because it has many canals. Whether you want to try the adventure alone in your boat or with a guide, you will not be disappointed by this walk in the heart of the marshes. A magnificent landscape awaits you. Please note that various museums are open to the public in Niort. We can mention in particular the Bernard d'Agesci Museum, an unusual place that we recommend you to discover in Niort. The Dungeon Museum in Niort has one of the most important collections of regional headdresses in France. Several churches are also present, including Notre-Dame and Saint-André church. To finish your visit of Niort, go to Fort Foucault. Dating from the 12th century, this fort was used to protect the port at the time.
