What to visit in Biarritz and the Basque Country?

The Basque Country is a unique territory attached to its Franco-Spanish roots. Biarritz is one of the two major Basque cities. It’s an historic seaside resort that offers many cultural and sporting activities. Sports enthusiasts and fans of extreme sports can try surfing on the Basque coast’s waves or the Grande Plage. The others can stroll on the various beaches or in the shops and restaurants on the historic center streets. The Rock of the Blessed Virgin (Le Rocher de la Vierge), the lighthouse and the Sea Museum are must-see. More into the land, between Adour and Nive, offers itself to you Bayonne. In this typical Basque city, you will discover regional specialties such as the Basque cake, the piperade or the axoa. If you are looking for more privacy, the villages of Guéthary, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Hendaye, Bidart (on the coast), Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port or the Rhune and its small mountains train will make you discover the Basque Country authenticity. One of the most famous specialties of the Basque Country is the Espelette pepper. In the village of Espelette you can admire the peppers drying on the facades of typical houses.
