What to visit in the city of Béziers?

In the old town of Béziers you will find the Chapel of the Blue Penitents, or Chapel of the Recollets, which is a 15th century Gothic building; the 11th and 12th century Romanesque style Saint-Jacques church and the beautiful garden that surrounds it; the Fine Arts Museum and its collection of works in painting and sculpture by world famous artists; and of course the Saint-Nazaire cathedral which overlooks the town with its towers and battlements, giving it a castle feel. Don't miss a walk along the canal to discover the 9 locks of Fonseranes, a technical masterpiece that allows a difference in height of more than 21 metres.
Also worth seeing is the old 7th century bridge, the flower market held every Friday under the very old plane trees of the Paul Riquet alleys; the poets' plateau, a large English-style park and its statues of poets as well as that of Pierre-Paul Riquet, creator of the Canal du Midi. You can also enjoy several festive events, such as the Winter Flamenco Dance Festival or the summer fair.
