How do I find a campground near Saint-Nazaire?

Located at the mouth of the Loire, the city of Saint-Nazaire is famous for its port facilities and shipbuilding yards. Located in the west of France, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Loire-Atlantique department, the city has just under 70,000 inhabitants and has a lot to offer to travellers who come to the area! In order for you to be able to choose the best suited accommodation for your needs, we suggest that you quickly get in touch with the hosts on HomeCamper. If you want to spend your stay directly with the locals of the area who can share their knowledge of the region with you, don't hesitate to book your stay in advance!

What to visit in Saint-Nazaire?

The Escal'Atlantic International Steamship Center, located in the former submarine base, the ecomuseum retracing the history of Saint-Nazaire, the Swordfish submarine open to visitors and the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, specialised in the construction of cruise ships, punctuate the visit to the port. The roof terrace of the submarine base offers an overview of the port and its facilities.
Several monuments are also worth a visit: for the distant past, visit the Dolmen, a megalithic complex dating back 6000 years, very close to the city centre; more recently, the fort of Villès-Martin, from 1861, then the Kerlédé lighthouse, or the American Monument, dating from 1926, destroyed by the Germans in 1941 and rebuilt identically in 1989; finally, the Saint-Nazaire bridge, with its spectacular curve and its red cable stays, which is the longest in France (over 3 km).
For a more natural discovery, try the Chemin des Douaniers, which runs alongside the sea and which can be explored in all seasons, or a walk on the waterfront along the pretty Belle Epoque houses, unless you prefer the Chemin des Brouettes, between the shipyard and the banks of the Brivet, to be explored on foot according to the "menées", those paths which cross the district, just wide enough for a wheelbarrow, and which will take you into the heart of the city, between gardens and workers' homes. Also worth a visit is the ecomuseum which tells the history of the city!
