Description

The gite-refuge allows you to be close to nature, it is open to those who want to spend a night or more.
There is a place where you sleep: the hut; a place where you cook, eat and sleep: the dryer; the bathroom; the solar shower and the dry toilet. All these places are distant from each other because the place where we live the most is in the nature.
It is an atypical and shared accommodation. You can rent the 10 places if you want to be alone. Otherwise, it is a place of meeting and conviviality.

The setting

Located on the top of a hill, on the edge of a forest, calm and restful, the refuge-gîte of Croquants d'herbes folles offers an immersion in the woods. The view and the setting sun give an ever-renewed pleasure.
The corridors are paths winding through the woods.

The spots

The cabin where you will sleep, is a real cabin. It is designed as a refuge. At the top of the slope, there is a dormitory room with 6 single beds. Upstairs, accessible by a spiral staircase climbing around an oak tree, is an attic room with 2 double beds.
The beds have their own sheets, pillows and pillowcases. You bring your own comforter. The cabin is a sleeping place, it has no electricity. The dry toilets are outside. Bring a good flashlight for your travels after dark.
Below, it forms a sheltered terrace, with a view of the valley and the setting sun.
The dryer is a large wooden shed (88m²), clad in wood, stone and glass. A part of it is fitted out as a kitchen with worktops, sinks, gas stoves, fridge and tables. Everyone can cook there.
One part is a dining room with two large tables and benches.
Finally, sofas and armchairs allow you to relax and read, about 2000 books are at your disposal. A closed fireplace allows to create a hot spot if needed. The dryer is not thermally insulated. The floor is made of local sand.

The sanitary facilities

The bathroom has two showers and two sinks. It is placed under our house to facilitate the connections and to offer a solid environment. For those who prefer a wilder shower, the solar shower has a direct view of the valley. It is large enough to accommodate several people and has maximum sunlight.
Moreover, all our hot water is heated by the sun. The house is heated by direct solar panels.
There are three dry toilets: one close to our house, that's the one we use; one close to the dryer and one close to the hut. They are all usable in sitting position or in Turkish style.

The amenities

In the dryer, a power strip is a recharging station for cell phones and other items and several other sockets are available.
In the kitchen cupboard, you will find kitchen utensils, cutlery, glasses, plates, kettle, coffee maker, salt, pepper, oil etc. If you are missing some things or ingredients, there is a good chance that we can help you out.
We sell in season vegetables from the garden, my hydroalcoholic macerates, eggs, honey, dried plants.
Wifi is available in the house if needed.
Sheets and pillows with their cases are provided.
Toilet paper too.

The activities

I propose ethnobotanical outings on demand and by the hat. For all those who would like to meet the common plants of the region, learn to recognize them and their uses (culinary, medicinal, dyeing, etc..)
We are in the cradle of prehistory with many sites to visit. Castles, medieval sites, caves, classified villages are innumerable. The Vézère and the Dordogne allow canoeing and swimming. The hikes, marked out or not, are easy. The GR36 passes at 4 kms.
The towns of Montignac (Lascaux cave) and Thenon are 8 kms away.

Other things

The gite is not isolated. At the beginning and end of the season, the weather conditions can be harsh. It is necessary to have something to dress warmly.

Rules

Arrivals are preferably from 3 to 7 pm. The site is atypical and it is better to arrive during the day, especially with children. You will enjoy the place all the more.
The departures are done before noon, it is always possible to have a picnic on the spot before leaving.
The buildings are non-smoking.
For security reasons, candles and other flames should not be lit inside, so of course there is no smoking. Smokers, please also keep your cigarette butts, for example in a small iron box. In summer, even outside, a fire can start quickly.
Everyone must be careful for others and leave the place, dishes etc. clean. Everything is at your disposal and also at your attention, thank you.
Horses and cats are allowed. Dogs are not allowed, even if they are very nice.

Outstanding
  • Calm and relaxing setting with a magnificent view over the valley. A must if you're looking for a change of scenery and a return to eco-tourism.
